Riding Lessons

Beginner Lessons

Students will learn the basics of horsemanship.

  • Catch and release, from pasture and stall.
  • Proper leading and horse discipline.
  • Ground manners of human and horse. (First rule at Hay Creek Stables is to have a safe experience.)
  • Grooming and Health
  • Introduction to equipment and tacking (saddling up).
  • Seat position and balance.

Intermediate Lessons Part 1

Students will now develop a deeper understanding of the horse's behavior.

  • Recognizing a horse's body language when riding, while being observed from the ground.
  • "What are their ears telling me?" J.O.
  • How does a horse's interaction with its herd teach us about our communication with them?

Intermediate Lessons Part 2

"My seat, My legs, My mind, Oh My!"

  • Start to master muscle memory.
  • Put your understanding of your seat and the horse together.
  • Catch, groom, saddle and bridle, and unsaddle are done solo by student.
  • "Proper practice, makes proper riding." J.O.

Advanced Lessons

Specialize in a discipline or stick to the trail. Are you ready for your own horse?

  • Students are expected to prepare their horse for a lesson with no supervision.
  • More challenging trails and obstacles.
  • Western or English?
  • Or maybe you'll try driving a horse now.
  • More saddle time makes for a better rider.
